A Brief History of ITS

The roots of ITS can be traced back to the founding of the Technische Hogeschool te Bandoeng (THB) in 1920. The THB was the first technical university in the Dutch East Indies, and was established to provide technical education to local students. After Indonesia gained independence from the Dutch in 1949, the THB was renamed the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB).

In 1957, the Indonesian government decided to establish a new technological institute in Surabaya, in response to the growing demand for technical education in the country. The new institute was named the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), in honor of the Indonesian national day of November 10.
