History of ITB-JH

The idea of establishing a technological university in Indonesia was first proposed by a group of Indonesian engineers, headed by Professor A. Rivai. The proposal was presented to the Indonesian government led by President Soekarno, who later realized the importance of having a technological university in the country. On March 2, 1959, ITB was officially inaugurated by President Soekarno, and Professor A. Rivai was appointed as the first rector of the university.

Over the years, ITB has undergone several changes and developments. In 1990, ITB opened its doors to international students, and in 2015, it was renamed ITB-JH. The renaming of ITB was done to commemorate the 80th birthday of Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie, who was also a graduate of the university. Habibie was an influential figure in the development of science and technology in Indonesia, and ITB-JH aims to continue his legacy by providing quality education in STEM.
